Reset Root Password on older OxE’s

This works for LINUX releases only.

Plug your favorite PC or LAPTOP to the console port of the system, and reboot the
system. If you can’t login because you lost all the password, you’ll have to power off,
and power on the PBX. This is BAD and you might loose data !

At the reboot process, a little while after the “Hit [CTRL]+B to enter the bios” you’ll see
the GRUB prompt. Rapidly, hit the letter c on your keyboard

Once you are at the grub prompt, enter those commands:
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda5 console=ttyS0,9600 panic=5 single boot

Note:
console=ttyS0 the letter ‘s’ HAS to be uppercase, and is followed by the number zero

The system will boot, and you’ll have a shell under root

To change the password for root , just type passwd
Once you enter your password, it might tell you that’s it’s not a valid password (ex: BAD
PASSWORD: it is too short) , just re-enter the password and it will be validated.

To change the password for any other user, just type passwd user

Once your are done, type reboot , and that’s it !
